This full day course will cover similar topics to Pro-active Violence Prevention. In this course, techniques for defending against strikes and grabs are replaced with a focus on reducing stigma through practical and client centred approaches.
The course will cover the following topics:
-Recognizing the causes and signs of escalation in patients, clients and their family members.
-Assessing risks in your environment, task, and patient behaviour and history.
-The role of accurate and effective documentation in violence prevention.
-How we can document incidents to reduce the stigma effecting our clients.
-Education about common needs , barriers and challenges facing clients in Mental Health and Addictions work.
-The importance of consent in health care.
-Building rapport through easy to apply respectful communication techniques.
-De-escalation strategies that support clients to feel safe and secure.
